Next Door Nightclub Honolulu, Hawaii (Our new home)

Next Door nightclub in Honolulu’s “Chinatown” district is one of those special places that once you go you won’t soon forget. From the motif, to the ambiance, and the sound, Next Door is the epitome of what a nightclub should be in an ever declining underground scene!

Instead of booking the mainstream or the popular radio artists, Next Door focuses on bringing artists that are new and fresh in the world of up and coming superheroes. In my opinion this venue is as good as it gets. From the moment you walk up and lay eyes on the Michael Jackson mural (808 Urban) on the front wall you know you’re in for a treat. Once inside it’s on, and you know you have arrived. With its graffiti painted brick walls and the beats thumping your chest, it just clicks. This is what a club should be! It seems that if you want a taste of the underground Next Door is that place, and one of the few spots you can truly be yourself. Chris (owner/promoter) has done a superb job on getting the venue the way it should be, so big ups to you Chris and the entire Next Door staff for running a place that doesn’t have to fit the mold in order to get the people out! Not only does Next Door bring in the best musical talent, but they also hold other events as well. For example the club will host great independent films which can’t be seen anywhere else on the island. This is just another example of the venues commitment to the progression of the arts in all mediums. Next Door would rather take a chance on bringing something unique even if it is not well known instead of your average run of the mill BS!

So with all this being said lets go back to Next Door’s urban mentality and the Mural that is on the front wall of the building! It’s a great painting of the king of pop and sets the club off before even stepping foot through the door. Just seeing the outside of the club gives you a damn good idea of what your about to get yourself into. Besides the artwork inside and out, they also occasionally have artists painting live throughout the night as the show is going down. I think I have made myself perfectly clear by this point as to how I feel about the spot, so fuck it…you need to go ahead and throw on your kicks and come on down to Chinatown and see it for yourself. And if nothing else, Cynamatik is bringing one of the hottest artists on the planet to Next Door on December 12, and his name is Tittsworth! So it’s a perfect time to come out to this Hawaiian staple and get crazy with the whole Next Door family and me! See you there

Mustard Pimp – Cherry ft. Kali

Baron and eKa have done it again! This time adding a few bells and whistles to one of their own creations! Don’t get me wrong, the original is great, but the “Dark Remix” is where it’s at! It’s no wonder these guys were picked up by Dim Mak. You can grab a copy of the single from beatport and in the meantime, enjoy the remix!

Introducing… 808 Urban!

When most people think of graffiti they think of hooligans scribbling obscenities or gang tags which looks trashy and defaces public property. Unfortunately there is a lot of this kind of thing happening. You can see it every time you get in your car or take a walk down the street. But even though this kind of garbage happens, there are a select few graffiti artists that put their heart and soul into what they do and the end product is a piece of art that could sell for thousands and thousands of dollars! Here in Oahu theer is one crew in particular that is as good as I have ever seen(I’ve seen urban art all over the states and the world). Their crew goes by “808 Urban” which says it all. 808’s murals and the characters they use are absolutely brilliant with crystal clear lines, spot on shading, and amazing clarity! Some of “808 Urban’s” pieces look like they were done with markers on a canvas or even on a computer program……Yeah, they are that good!

Well with John “Prime” Hina it doesn’t stop with just the painting. He decided to help the community by getting kids off the street and having them work with the crew. He has gone so far as making “808 Urban” a non-profit organization. John has gone from having to hide his work to having tons of people offer there space to let him paint. One of my favorite’s by “808″ is of the late King of Pop across from the 7-11 on King St. I’m not the only one who is amazed by this piece either, recently the LA Times did an article on John “Prime”, and Michael Jackson’s kids also took notice of the piece! Can you say RESPECT!!! I will say “Prime” is one of my hero’s not only for his amazing art, but for helping give kids options, different paths to choose from, and by putting a smile on my face every time I see one of “808 Urban’s ” pieces.

For those who don’t know, spray painting isn’t easy and to be able to get pencil thin lines is even harder, but “Prime” makes it look easy! For me I’ll have to stick with djing, because my piece would be one of the ones that gives graffiti a bad name. The man is also being invited to go to other places around the country to show people the what’s what of graffiti and how its done in the 808! We all need to go to www.808urban.org, register and say thanks for what they’re doing for urban art not only in Hawaii, but all over the world.

So from me and the entire Cynamatik crew, Thank you bro and keep it up. The kids need you and the community needs you, so keep doing your thing! Now lets hear a little bit from the man himself “Prime”:

Here we go…

It seems the French have done it again!

Well it looks as though we have a new team of French heavyweights ready to explode onto the scene and they go by the name of Give Me A Kiss. Thanks to their winning submission to Rise Records for their Popular Computer “Darling” remix contest, their mix will be on the new “Darling” EP and the boys should start getting a lot more exposure. You can definitely tell they were influenced by such artists as Toxic Avenger and The Bloody Beetroots. Other than that, not a lot is known about the trio at this time except for the fact that I can guarantee this is not the last we will hear from them.
Enjoy!

Le Castle Vania “Bulletproof Tiger Tour” (Now Booking)

It didn’t take long for Dylan Eiland, a.k.a. Le Castle Vania, to go from one of Atlanta’s local heros to household name worldwide! With Atlanta’s rapid growing music scene, and his top notch indie-electro production skills, and his spetacular dj sets, news of Le Castle Vania quickly spread far beyond his hometown.

By 2006 he was touring everywhere from Mexico to London and it seems almost constantly. Since he has toured alongside some of the biggest names in the scene today, such as Crystal Castles, Busy P, MSTRKRFT, Soulwax and many others. In the summer of 2006 he released a remix of Snowden’s “Black Eyes” and immediatley got instant recognition as not only a dj, but an up and coming producer as well. With tracks like Tigertron and his remix of 120 Day’s “Come Out” he was also named one of URB Magazine’s Next 100 in 2008.
His synth heavy tracks continue to rock dance floors worldwide. With releases in 2009 like “The Messiah” feat. Computer Club and his remix of Fukkk Offf’s “Rave is King” Le Castle Vania has definitely made himself a staple in the indie-electro scene.

He is currently booking for his up and coming “Bulletproof Tiger Tour”. For any promoters interested I have posted his contacts below.

Shinichi Osawa

Shinichi Osawa is definiteley not a new face to the music industry. Osawa was originally the leader and bassist for the popular Japanese musical group Mondo Grosso, which formed in Kyoto in 1991 on the For Life Records label. However, in 1995, the group was disbanded, and Osawa worked more on his own, collaborating with many artists such as Monday Michiru, Amel Larrieux, UA, Chara, Dragon Ash and even Ayumi Hamasaki. In the midst of his collaborative work in 1997, he became a solo producer, releasing the R&B infused acid jazz and house album Closer.

He made a move from For Life Records to Sony Music Associated Records in 1999, where he began his own label. His 2000 album MG4 displayed the diversity of his production, fusing jazz and house. It featured the hit song ‘Life’, featuring Bird. In 2003 he released Next Wave, a more traditional house album.

In 2007 Osawa moved to avex trax. Feeling that, in comparison to his previous albums, the sound reflected more closely his DJ sets and performances (performed under his real name), Osawa released his electro house album The One under the moniker of ‘Shinichi Osawa’ rather than ‘Mondo Grosso’. “Our Song” was the initial single released in Japan, followed by the Chemical Brothers cover Star Guitar. Under his real name, Osawa has received more international attention, creating acclaimed remixes of Felix da Housecat’s “Radio” and Digitalism’s “Pogo”. On June 28th 2008 Osawa performed at Electric Daisy Carnival, which was his first performance in America. He is also featured in Clazziquai’s Robotica album in a remix for Prayers by Christina Chu.

In October 2008, following a release of Star Guitar as a single by Data Records, Southern Fried Records made a digital release of The One in the UK. A physical release was made in January 2009.
In November 2008, “Our Song” appeared on the 16th version of Konami’s DJ simulation series Beatmania IIDX, alongside several other songs by Avex’s House Nation group.

Osawa was also involved in Ravex, a collaboration with fellow Avex DJs Tomoyuki Tanaka and Taku Takahashi established to mark 20 years of Avex. Their debut album Trax, which was released on April 8, 2009, follows the release of the singles I Rave U and Believe in LOVE – feat BoA. His single Electro411, which was released by So Sweet Records has just sold out.
