Kit Mobley – Heavy (Autumn 2009 DJ Mix)

Miami is a late night kind of city; Kit Mobley has always been a late night guy. This is the legacy of the big Miami sound that I fell in love with during my days there; gritty, serious music, long on dark breakdowns and leisurely builds. Somewhere, Grayvz just said “fuck progressive”, but this mix really kind of defies a label. Its got its techy moments certainly, and considering its origin, it’s not in your face because it doesn’t have to be. This is big room club music at its finest; strictly for the self assured, money-making jet set. Now, Kit Mobley has been doing his thing for quite a while now and has always possessed this extremely smooth style of transition and progression in his sets, yet still going for the throat with every pick. Somewhere along the way between the last time I saw him and now, he dropped the hard style and, well, we really like this mix! (trying to be civil here, for all he hard style lovers still out there) Despite the hubbub about “electro” and “electrohouse” and/or “fidget” for the past couple of years, it’s easy to forget that tech still has its advantages. The highlights on this mix are pretty fire; there’s a new version of Inner City’s Good Life floating on this, as well as a sick LMFAO remix, and an amazing glimpse at Chic re-imagined. Don’t want to spoil all the fun though, so definitely give this one a glance. Tunes ♣♣♣.5 Technique ♠♠♠♠
