Wix to Astro rebuild for Stock Island's wood-fired pizza place. A real menu instead of Wix demo data, hours machines can read, and lighter images that pushed mobile Lighthouse to 99.

The Challenge

Roostica has been making wood-fired pizza on Stock Island since 2012, half a mile from its sister restaurant, Hogfish Bar & Grill. The old Wix site looked fine on a laptop and fell apart on a phone. The headline got clipped, the menu button was hidden in the first screen, and the hero photo was cropped badly enough that the logo sat on top of it. The menu page ran on the Wix Restaurants app and was showing stock demo data. The footer listed Hogfish’s address and phone number as Roostica’s. And the hours only appeared once JavaScript ran, so search engines and voice assistants had a hard time reading them.

The Build

We rebuilt it in Astro as a fully static site and fixed every one of those on purpose. The menu is real HTML now, with the nightly specials, lunch hours and allergy note that were missing, plus a downloadable PDF that matches the printed menu. Two new pages answer common questions: one for gluten-free, and one for the restaurant’s square pie night (since replaced by Nonna’s Pie, with a redirect). The twelve webfont families Wix loaded came down to two self-hosted ones, and all 108 images go through Astro’s pipeline as AVIF and WebP at the right size.

The menu, specials, FAQ, hours and phone number each live in one data file. Change the hours once and the page, the footer and the structured data all update together. Reviews come from Google at build time, using the same setup we built for Hogfish.

For search, every page carries PizzaRestaurant structured data linked to Hogfish. A visible FAQ with matching schema now covers 16 questions, including the ones AI assistants were getting wrong. The footer shows both restaurants with the right address for each.

The Result

The site cut over September 8 with zero automated accessibility violations across 46 scans. A later image pass cut the home hero by 53% and the menu hero by 55%, and a single mobile Lighthouse run on the homepage came back 99, up from 94 to 96 on the live site before. The menu is accurate, and the hours are finally readable by machines.
