AI Visibility Monitoring for Florida Keys Businesses
Can ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini actually read your site and recommend you? Here's what AI visibility monitoring checks, how to test it yourself, and what to fix first.

You’re wondering whether ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini can actually find your business and recommend it. That’s what AI visibility monitoring answers.
Most business owners in the Keys still think about search as Google. But plenty of visitors now plan a trip by asking an AI assistant, and they take the answer they get. If your site is slow, hidden or confusing to a machine, you’re not in that answer.
What is AI visibility monitoring?
Traditional SEO monitoring tracks where you rank on Google. AI visibility monitoring checks three things: can the AI crawlers reach your site, can they tell what your business does, and do they cite you when someone asks?
The “monitoring” part matters. A WordPress plugin update, a hosting move or a new firewall rule can block AI crawlers without anyone noticing. I wrote about that in Your robots.txt Changed Last Tuesday, and it’s why I re-scan client sites every week instead of checking once and calling it done. More about local SEO.
Why does this matter for Florida Keys businesses?
People don’t search like they used to. Instead of typing “fishing charter Islamorada,” they ask their phone “who’s a good captain for a half-day trip with kids in the Keys?” The AI answers from sites it can read and trust.
If your booking system lives behind a login, your phone number is baked into a graphic, or your rates only load after a pile of JavaScript runs, the AI can’t use any of it. You lose the customer before they ever call. More about web design in Islamorada.
How do I know if I am visible to AI?
Start by asking the AI tools yourself. Search the way your customers would, by category and town, not by your business name, and see if you come up.
Then look under the hood. Is your robots.txt blocking GPTBot or PerplexityBot? Do you have JSON-LD structured data that spells out what you do, where you are and when you’re open? Does your content answer the questions people actually ask? My free AI site audit checks crawler access, schema and citability in about 20 seconds. More about the free AI site audit.
Why does site speed and structure matter for AI?
Most AI crawlers grab the HTML and move on. They don’t wait for a heavy page builder to finish assembling itself. Whatever isn’t in that first response might as well not exist.
That’s why I build on Astro and Tailwind. Pages ship as plain, fast HTML, so crawlers get everything on the first request. Fast isn’t enough on its own, though. You still need clear schema and plain language for an AI to quote you.
Can I fix this myself?
Some of it. Keep your contact info as real text, add an FAQ section, and use clear headings that match how people ask questions.
The technical side, schema, crawler rules and rendering, usually takes a developer. And AI search changes fast, so what works today can break next month. Your time is better spent running your business. I build sites that are ready for AI from day one and keep an eye on them after launch. More about my services.

Frequently asked questions
- What is AI visibility monitoring?
- Traditional SEO monitoring tracks where you rank on Google. AI visibility monitoring checks whether ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini can reach your site, understand what your business does, and cite you when someone asks for a recommendation. Then it keeps checking, because a plugin update or hosting change can quietly lock them out.
- How do I know if I am visible to AI?
- Ask the AI tools the way a customer would. Try "best half-day fishing charter in Islamorada" or "where to eat in Key Largo" in ChatGPT and Perplexity and see if your business shows up. If it doesn't, check your robots.txt and schema next, or run the free AI site audit.
- Why does site speed and structure matter for AI?
- Most AI crawlers read the raw HTML and don't wait around for heavy JavaScript to build the page. If your hours, prices or booking info only appear after scripts run, or sit inside an image, the AI never sees them.
- Can I fix this myself?
- Some of it. Keep your contact info as real text, add an FAQ, and use clear headings. Schema, crawler rules and rendering fixes usually need a developer, and someone has to keep checking after every change to the site.
